Not Much to Report

Joe's first test is officially done and he got a B! Definitely a solid grade for his first dental school exam. Because he doesn't have another test until 9/23, we were able to spend time together the last couple nights (hence my lack of posts).

It's not that much has been going on, though.

On Thursday, I learned that Buster would be my Achilles heel if ever there were a zombie apocalypse. After three days in the gym, I wanted to try training outside. Buster's been gaining a bit of weight, so I figured he could benefit from coming with me. While he definitely benefited, I certainly did not. He stopped at least 50 times to raise his leg on something and twice to poop. I think I'd have to carry Buster or abandon the poor pup should zombies ever really be chasing me. Either that, or get him doggie diapers ;)

On Friday, I fell down the stairs to the laundry. Remember how I have to go into this spooky basement to do my laundry?

I'm such a klutz, I knew it was only a matter of time before I fell down those stairs. Luckily, I fell from about the 3rd step from the ground so I escaped with just a skinned and bloodied knee (plus probably some of the disgusting bacteria that is certainly living down there haha).

Note to self: I MUST sign up for health insurance today. I've been tempting fate far too long.

Aside from my fall, the day was pretty uneventful. I did make some delicious cilantro lime chicken for dinner. I am becoming so domestic thanks to my 5 hour breaks in the day ;)

Tomorrow, Joe and I are doing our weekly date and will be hitting some balls at the driving range. Joe is VERY excited. Me? Well... I am more excited that we are going to go to Costco after.

I Wasn't Chased By Zombies Today...

But I DID do my 5k training.

***Side Note*** Fooled ya, didn't I? Thought I bailed after one day? As if ;) ***End of Side Note***

Contrary to its name Zombies, Run - apparently this app doesn't always give you zombies. There was a (brief) storyline today, but not a single walker. In the story, I have just arrived at a settlement and am training to be a supply runner.

You know, kind of like Glenn from Walking Dead:

I started out with a 10 minute walk, then did 10 drills of 1 minute walking and 15 seconds of running, and finished up with 10 minutes of "free form run" (which basically is just do whatever speed you want.) The head doctor of the settlement would encourage me every now and then and remind me that I need to practice my running before I can face the zombies.

Hopefully I don't have to practice TOO long before some zombies come. At this rate, the app isn't much more exciting than C25K. I read the preview of the next workout and it said that I'll still be practicing with the doctor, but I "might have some company."

Please, oh please have that company be a zombie!

You are only supposed to do the training every other day, so I won't find out until Thursday (I have to work all day on Wednesdays, so am going to use those as my recovery days). And, despite my disappointment with my zombie-free work out, I do think this will be a fun way to train.

Just please hurry up and get EXCITING!

I Joined a Gym!

Almost two months ago I wrote a post proclaiming that I was going to join a gym. I never did. (Which, given the fact I took the entire month of August off from trying to lose weight, was the right financial decision I guess.)

Now that I can't justify another second of being in "celebration mode," I decided that I was going to get serious again about losing weight as of today.

***Side Note*** I originally pressed pause because I wanted to feel like I could go to the social events that were happening during orientation and the beginning of dental school. Now that Joe is fully in the swing of things (he has his first test Wednesday and will likely be studying for it all day today), it's time that I start trying to lose weight again. Plus, moving forward, my 11ish hour a day job will now have a 5 hour break because the girls will be at school. With that break in my day, I have no excuse NOT to use it to exercise ***End of Side Note***

Now that I have FINALLY lived up to the promise that I was joining a gym, I figure I can also start working toward the promise I made in my 50th blog post. That promise is one that scares me a lot: I am going to run in the Philly Oral Cancer Walk and 5k this April.

I hate running. Like, seriously hate it. But it plays such a huge role in so many of the successful weight loss stories I see, that I know I need to suck it up and try. I've started C25K a couple times and quit once I had to run more than 5 minutes in a row. While I know that program is very popular and successful, I feel like I need to start fresh with a different program.

So, since I've always said that the only reason I'd run is if I was being chased by someone wanting to kill me (and even then - let's be real - I'd just be running to the nearest hiding place), I found the most appropriate app to help me train: Zombies, Run 5k.

After all, even though Walking Dead's #1 rule for survival is, "DON'T DEAD OPEN INSIDE" ;)

Zombieland taught us that the #1 rule for survival is CARDIO!

So why not use the threat of imaginary zombies chasing me down to try to motivate me to run? It's definitely a creative take on training for a 5k.

Plus, I found this 5k last month and am dying to participate next summer (no pun intended hahaha).

Today I just did the introduction, which allowed me to go at whatever speed I wanted. Once I start the program, I think it's going to have specific times where I need to pick up the pace or else I may get eaten.

Stay tuned to see if I survive!
