About Us

Me

Hi! I'm Kate (a.k.a. Katie, a.k.a. Bizzy, a.k.a. KTB).

I was born in Southern California where I lived until I was 10. At that point, we (my mom, dad, and younger brothers Kevin and Brian) moved to a teeny tiny town in Northern California where my family has a winery. As a kid, I was pretty precocious and a bit of an attention-hog. My parents say that once I learned how to talk, I never shut up... my husband isn't surprised to hear this. I put this love of the spotlight to use, and was involved in theater from second grade through high school.

I attended college at Gonzaga University and am now a die-hard Zags basketball fan. I majored in Communications because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and (as previously noted) am a fan of talking.

After college, I thought I wanted to become a teacher, so I worked as an after-school coordinator at a Catholic K-8 school. I really enjoyed working with kids, so I enrolled in a teacher certification program. I guess I didn't like the actual teaching part, since I promptly dropped out of after my first period student teaching. Oops.

Still not knowing what I wanted to be "when I grew up", I found an advertising account manager job with a tech company in San Francisco. It was quite the culture-shock (I was even licked by a homeless man in the subway...), but it allowed me to be closer to my boyfriend (now husband).

In my free time I love to read, shop, travel, craft, and I recently started to learn photography. I am a TV addict and a huge fan of horror movies (I wrote my college thesis on slasher films). I also think wine is mighty fine and puns are absolutely hilarious (cue the groans).

Last but not least, I am lucky enough to be married to my soul mate, a man who perfectly completes me and possesses every quality I ever wished for (and many I didn't know I wanted, but now couldn't ever do without).

Joe

This is Joe (a.k.a. Goe). Said soul mate.

Joe grew up in Kansas City and Columbia, Missouri, and has the manners and charm that one would expect from a boy who grew up in the Midwest. He is fiercely proud of his state, and if a celebrity or public figure who is from/lived in Missouri is brought up, I'm quickly informed of their connection to the state.

As an undergraduate, he attended the University of Missouri and majored in Psychology.

After college he was looking for a change of scenery and a bit of adventure, so he moved to Northern California. Soon after arriving, he was hired as a case manager for people with developmental disabilities (a population he worked with in college as well).

He was great at his job, but in August 2009 he decided he wanted to pursue dentistry as his career. He enrolled in a Post-Bac program in order to fulfill the necessary requirements for dental school and was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

In his free time, he loves to watch sports, travel, and cook (score!). He is a huge fan of Mizzou football and basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He does not like horror movies *sad face* but at least he can appreciate a good pun.

Buster

This is Buster (a.k.a. "Buster!" in the voice of Lucille 2 on Arrested Development). The new addition to our little family. We adopted him from a shelter on June 29, 2013 and his birthday is March 14, 2010. He's such a sweet little dog, I don't know why anyone would give him up. But I am glad they did, because he's ours now :)

We think he is a mix of Italian Greyhound and/or Whippet with some Fox or Jack Russell terrier thrown in. Unlike a lot of terriers, he's a quiet boy (except for a few barks when someone comes to the door or we are trying to crate train him...).

He is a total cuddlebug, and loves to snuggle with Joe and me on the couch. He also likes treats (duh!) and playing with his bento ball (seriously folks, get your dog this toy NOW).

Our Life Together

Joe and I met a couple years after he moved to California and a couple months after I returned from college. He didn't have many friends (he lived in a town full of tourists and retired people) and I didn't see many romantic prospects in my town (population 812), so we both tried online dating.

Too cheap to actually pay for a love connection, we both joined a free dating website.

I had just gotten out of a 2 year not-so-awesome relationship (not his fault, we were just not a good match), and had technically sworn off dating for a year to "find myself." But, since I have trouble committing to restrictions (*cough* like diets), I figured I could still try to find "The One" while finding myself.

Since I was pretty laissez faire about finding a boyfriend, I didn't mind if my profile was a bit discerning intimidating. On it, I listed the exact qualities I was looking for (and the ones I wasn't), and even warned that if I received an e-mail with typos I wouldn't respond (wow - what a B!). Instead of being afraid of the tough talk, Joe saw me as a girl who knew exactly what she wanted and he sent me a message (typo free of course). Thank God.

After sending messages back and forth and some great phone conversations, we decided to go on our first date. We met at Scandia (a place with miniature golf, arcade games, batting cages, etc.) and had a lot of fun. Joe asked me for a second date before the first one was even over - and I quickly accepted.

We dated somewhat long distance (1 1/2 hours or so) until he started his Post-Bac program in San Francisco and I found that Account Manger job.

We got married in June 2011, and are really enjoying it. It's amazing how much closer we feel now that we are married. It's been a fun couple of years, and we can't wait to see what the future holds as we embark on this next chapter of our lives!
